Before applying coatings round off door/window and frame edges and remove any dirt, dust, grease, moisture or surface contamination. If sanding becomes necessary, only lightly sand the surface using a fine 400 grit paper. Prime all door/window and frame edges with an interior, solvent borne wood primer and apply two coats to the top and bottom edges. Allow the primer to dry, then finish paint the door with one coat solvent borne undercoat and one coat solvent borne matt or gloss paint. A second coat of matt or gloss paint may be applied for the highest quality finish. Lightly sand between coats with fine grit paper. Water based paints, varnishes and polishes recommended by the paint/coating manufacturer for use on door/window and frames, may also be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Painters should be aware that some water based paints may be subject to paint sticking on closed surfaces. Matt, Low-gloss and Satin finishes also tend to scuff and mar more predominantly than Gloss finishes. Always select and apply paints in accordance with the paint manufacturer's recommendations.
